It’s been one week and a day since Drake’s highly anticipated debut album Thank Me Later was released online and in stores and now the numbers are in. There was a lot of speculation as to whether or not Drake would sell a million or if he would even sell half of that in his first week. My prediction was around 400,000 total copies, digital and physical and I wasn’t too far off.
After reviewing the SoundScan numbers this morning for Thank Me Later, the breakdown is as follows: his physical sales (CD) were 447,307 and his digital sales from online retailers such as iTunes and Amazon came to 103,949 for a grand total of 551,256 copies sold. With all of the hype surrounding Drake in the past year, I think it’s safe to say his first week numbers are on par to make his album eventually go platinum. You might disagree, but for an artists debut album to move that many copies in today’s hip-hop world is almost unheard of. Congrats to Drake, Young MoneyCash Money and Universal and most importantly, the music industry. Lets see where Aubrey takes us from here.
