IMF Halloween Weekend Recap (Part 2: Freaky Deaky)

The second night of the Halloween weekend was going to be an epic night of EDM music. Laidback Luke, MSTRKRFT, and Wolfgang Gartner were all going to be blessing the city with some incredible heart pumping dance floor banging sets brought to you by React Presents.

With my stomach filled with mad butterflies and my ears still ringing from Check Yo Ponytail, it was only thirty minutes before Freaky Deaky was bout to start that all of my problems went away. Decked out in full Halloween attire we were off for a night like no other. Strange looks on the train and even stranger costumes in line, which wrapped around the building, were our greetings to the Congress Theater.

I don’t know if you’ve ever been to this hundred-year-old theater but it was the perfect venue for the Halloween weekend. Old style marquee and art deco designs of times passed showed the age of this place crawling with half naked girls everywhere. Before the main acts showed it was clear Araabmuzik wasn’t going to show, since the snow/rain in NYC canceled all flights in/out. But that wasn’t going to stop Laidback Luke, MSTRKRFT and Wolfgang Gartner from giving the people what they came for.

Greeted at the entrance by the Chicago S.W.A.T. team and a weird Kadafi like DJ who spun nothing but some broke ass old records. I just prayed that this wasn’t how the night was going to shape up. Once Gun Love got the boot and the G.I. Joe police force relaxed a little we all took our places front and center for the master himself Laidback Luke.

The way Luke commanded the crowd was insane. Head pounding beat after beat and the crowd reacted all in sync to each drop and build up. We all moved as one collective entity. Hot as hell, and in need of water security started throwing water at the front and throwing out those who had enough. But how could you have enough of this awesome set. As Laidback Luke finished up his hour and a half set, confetti filled the building.

Navigating the crowd to get some water for our people in the front was like swimming in an ocean of people. But well worth the effort, cause now I got an even better view of MSTRKRFT as they began their epic set. I don’t even know where to begin on how awesome the next hour and a half was but the place was electrified. Down in the belly of the crowd MSTRKRFT dropped banger after banger mixing just a little bit of everything from their catalog. The definite stand out for me was when they dropped The Phantoms Revenge’s “Charlie” and Nero’s “Crush On You”. Dehydrated, spent and our Chucks were completely fucked, we called it a night. Maybe next time we will get to see Wolfgang Gartner.

Thank you to all the artists that came out and all the people we met at the shows, Cheers to all of you and to an unforgettable Halloween weekend like no other. Till the next time. If you missed part 1 of our halloween wrap up click here.
