Last week we got invited to Retrospect’s live performance at The Tonic Room where we got to chop it up with the guys, enjoy the rhymes with a handful of fine women and find out some updates on their upcoming shows and releases. When we last caught up with the duo of Def Poet and Quotes they were premiering their first single “We Came Last” off their yet to be released The Breakout mixtape on IMFmag.com. And now two months later all in attendance at the Tonic Room where signing right a long word for word. I’m sure it’s a dope feeling when what you create gets so much love, and it couldn’t happened to a more humble group.
After blessing the stage with a set that covered a handful of The Spect’s freshest cuts (the ever potent “B-Side”, the girl dedicated “Abella“, and their latest single “We Came Last“) Retrospect headed outside for a much needed breath of fresh air and that’s where I caught up with everything Retrospect. Retrospect has been paying it’s dues and the come up has been moving at a rapid pace from when we first introduced you to them back in April. After they released their Retro1 EP and the video for “Abella” Retrospect has been making quite a bit of noise in the city of wind, and Quotes let me know that fellow Chicago emcee and former member of the Black Eye Peas ShowYouSuck had dropped a wild verse for the remix to “Abella” the other day, which should be dropping soon accompanied by a brand new visual directed by Christopher Yankton.
Also in the works, the group has a brand new visual for “We Came Last” directed by Sol Films featuring cameos by The WHOevers, Chandler London and a few other special guests. And of course the much anticipated Breakout tape will be dropping soon. If that wasn’t enough to wet your hip hop whistle and get you excited, Quotes also added some big news about their next show;
