Young General Releases Two New Tracks From Upcoming Mixtape

Last week we announced that we would be sponsoring one of Chicago’s finest, Young General and his upcoming mixtape release. We gave you a taste with two tracks and this week is no different.

“The opening chords & vocals of “Here We Go” tell the story: even new listeners have the sense that the song is about to pop. During FiveSTAR shows as G and the band groove to that opening, I’ve seen faces in the crowd beginning to grin the way riders do on a roller coaster that is ticking ever closer to the peak. And then that drum beat hits and the title is the mood: here we go”. – ReadJack

You’ll be able to check out the 2nd track this week after the jump.

“There’s a natural tension in Hip-Hop 4 Adults just as there is a tension to adulthood: striking the balance between your hedonistic, self-centered desires and the calming influence of marriage and family. Like the life of a man in his 30s building his own success, some tracks on HH4AV2 lean toward the realities of responsibility while others lean toward the thrill of freedom. With its opening line (“Got no kids/ no wife/ in the club all night/ now that’s a hell of a life.”), “Hell of a Life” clearly aligns itself with the latter, a theme echoed by (or perhaps proceeded by) the booming drums and rolling bass. This is club life, corner booth, champagne truth”. – ReadJack
