DAILY 01/10

New Years Eve is always one of the nights that you need to put some planning into if you want to actually have a good time. Your typical choices are always: 1. get dressed up, get tickets to some open bar event (you know, the lavish shit) 2. Your friend is having some big party at their place and it’s what everyone else is doing 3. A show. Obviously we picked number 3 and our show happened to be one of dub’s craziest artists, Rusko. The sold-out show was held at Chicago’s Congress Theater, with 4500 dancing the night away into 2012.

After assembling our crew of 50+ on a party bus, we headed out for Congress Theater to celebrate the new year. Our good friends at React Presents and thankfully Rusko’s management allowed us to capture one of the best new years I’ve had in my short lifetime. After a balloon drop at midnight, Rusko didn’t stop jumping up and down for an hour and a half as he played tracks like “Woo Boost” and the Sub Focus remix of “Hold On”. If you missed it, we’ll help you try and remember with a few photos.

DAILY 01/03

This past week at The Mid Chicago, Hennessy Black brought along Flosstradamus and AraabMUZIK among others for some quality live entertainment. I’ve had the pleasure of seeing Araab do his thing live and I highly recommend going to see him if you ever get the chance. That boy is ridiculous on the MPC. It was also my first time seeing Flosstradamus but I will gladly see them again when given the opportunity. They dropped a lot of great Hip-Hop tracks – more than I expected after watching a few of their sets on YouTube, but it was all welcomed. If you missed the show, catch a few photos after the jump.

Benny Gold released the lookbook photos for his Winter collection. Getting away from San Francisco, city-life type of shots, they traveled to the Redwoods to encapsulate what the brand means and continues to mean. Gold says, “The brand has always been about remaining youthful and not losing sight of where we came from and where we are going — stay gold.”

DAILY 11/17

Bobby Ray aka. B.o.B. stopped through Chicago last week to give people in the industry a chance to hear his upcoming album Strange Clouds exclusively during a private listening session held at The Mid. It was sponsored by Heineken Light so needless to say, there were a few beverages going around. As we arrived, the setting was very intimate and casual, something I’m not so familiar with when visiting The Mid. This was my first time seeing a Hip-Hop act come to The Mid, not necessarily to perform, but just in general. It’s typically filled with some of the best artists within the EDM scene so the venue is always packed with people dancing.

A few photogs from around the city gathered to greet B.o.B. as he stepped into the venue. He stood in front of a few Heineken pop-ups as everyone snapped away. Once he was done, his entourage escorted him downstairs until it was time to begin the listening session. I found myself a nice seat right in front and awaited some words from B.o.B.. It was during this time I found myself extremely annoyed with the DJ (no shots). I don’t know if this was his doing, or someone from B.o.B.’s crew, but he proceeded to play “Strange Clouds” (the song, not the album) over and over. I think we tallied at least 8 plays in a row. This should never happen, anywhere. I realize it’s a listening session, but that should be no excuse when we’re going to be listening to it at least 1 more time during the album play out.

Once the DJ stopped playing “Strange Clouds”, I thanked him, and then B.o.B. walked out on stage to a cheering crowd. He thanked everyone for coming out to check out his album, mentioned a little bit about his thoughts on the recording process, music started playing, and then B.o.B. walked off the stage and back into the back. I was sort of expecting him to chill out on stage with his crew and do a track-by-track run through of the album with his commentary, but that didn’t really happen. After a few songs, I decided it was time to part ways. From what I did hear from Strange Clouds, it’s a more mature sound from Bobby Ray compared to the first album. You’ll just have to wait and see for yourself. Hit the jump for a few photos.

The Boy Illinois is getting ready to release his forthcoming project Inhale Pt. 4: Horai tomorrow (you better download that shit) and we had the opportunity to hit the listening session this past Tuesday in the Foundation Room at the House of Blues Chicago. Illy and DJ Z from DJBooth.net gave us a complete breakdown of the project and fans were blessed with what is sure to be his best project to date. Disagree? You’ll see for yourself tomorrow. In the meantime, scope out a few photos IMF photog Andre Velez snapped in between drinks.
