TDE’s Schoolboy Q is no stranger to New York and yesterday he came out to rock Central Park’s Summer Stage with other performers, Danny Brown and Childish Gambino. Although draped like a boxer in a very cozy sweat suit, Q definitely turnt it up for the crowd and kept his “Hands on The Wheel” after some excessive weed and brews in the backstage trailer.-BlowHipHopTV

You can call this an unlikely pairing on paper, but the end result isn’t half bad, nonetheless. Here, for Childish Gambino’s latest offering from his upcoming [as-yet-untitled] mixtape, the multi-talented rapper/actor enlists some help from Beck (of all people) on this refreshing newbie “Silk Pillow.” Once again, that cover game is off the heezy. As a fellow New Yorker…the art (above) embodies all aspects of the Big Apple’s struggle – everyday people working their butts off to make ends meet – all the while taking care of the responsibility of a little one. Life is tough and this pretty much symbolizes that adversity faced by millions of New Yorkers. Focusing on the black folk’ struggle, Donald Glover (bka Childish Gambino) and Nipsey Hussle do a great job with their lines of painting the common hardship(s) endured by their people – but infuse within the raps – a happy-ever-after back-story of making it big amidst the many trials and tribulations. With slick production handled by both Canadian representative Boi-1da and Ludwig, the single is the second official offering taken from Gambino’s forthcoming [yet-untitled] project coming soon.
Don’t let the nerdy glasses fool you, Donald Glover, known under the rap moniker Childish Gambino knows how to spit-a-lick or two –despite his Clark Kent swag. With an acclaimed album (“Camp”) already tacked onto his resume, and proving his lyrical prowess on the microphone isn’t a fluke, the rapper/actor is well ready to pick up where he left off on his previous successful run – releasing a brand new mixtape in the coming months – which as of press time, is currently untitled. Here, he joins forces with yet another criminally overlooked artist, Schoolboy Q, on his latest offering “Unnecessary.” How ill is this mug? Sheesh. Childish Gambino’s name has been on a solid rise and now with a full remix package release scheduled for February 14th will see the singles “Heartbeat” and “All The Shine” take on EDM with some incredible remixes from Treasure Fingers, the duo of Oliver and Little Dragon. The 6th annual FunFunFun Fest took over Austin, TX’s Auditorium Shores from November 4-6th. The eclectic lineup featured 4 stages each with a common theme, including an indie stage, a hip-hop/DJ stage, a hardcore/metal stage, and a comedy stage. The setting provided an entertaining and independent vibe with skate and bike ramps for a sideshow and local food trucks serving up grub. Diverse artists delivered incredible performances and the Austin crowd loved every minute of it, but that’s to be expected in The Live Music Capital of the World.
