DAILY 09/04

Alternative-pop singer Colin Munroe drops his long awaited free mixtape, Unsung Hero, in partnership with Karmaloop. On the 10 track set, Munroe finds ways to electronically shine bright despite the list of heavy-weight guest features, including that of Kendrick Lamar, Ab-Soul, RZA, Pusha T, K.Flay, Memoryhouse and Cassie, who all contribute unforgettable spots on the project. The cut “Over It,” a previously heard gem is clearly a standout, and the booming “F#cking Amazing,” all do justice to strengthen Munroe’s rising career, but with an unsung hero label lingering around for the meantime, it appears that’ll soon vanish and evolve to superstar status in the near future. And the future is on an upside for Colin as he makes his mark with his debut LP in 2013 (courtesy of Capitol Records). Stream it below.

“Dear Friends & Family:

Without further ado, I present the completed Revox Suite – Vol. 1 for your listening pleasure. In addition to the Sky Ferreira & La Roux X Nicki Minaj revoxes that you might have heard already, there are also vocal remixes of songs by the Jackson 5, Paramore and Bob Dylan.

The Revox Suite sounds pretty unlike any project I’ve ever heard. I hope it encourages more people to think about bending and breaking musical barriers. Thank you for indulging the Unsung Hero in another one of my adventures. Now on to the next one.”

I think Colin said it best. Definitely check out this project. We’ve given you a preview of a couple of the tracks and the rest are crazy.

DAILY 09/30

Producer/emcee, Nottz and one of my personal faves, Ash Roth seemed to be spending quite the amount of studio time together these days due to their forthcoming collaborated project The Rawth, and while I haven’t totally payed close attention to their work however, I’m glad I did stumble across this piece. Dontcha Wanna Be will undoubtedly have you bobbin’ your head and put a lil’ grin on your face while you’re partaking. And how bout MySpace wonder, Colin Munroe just keeps poppin’ up everywhere these days. New Bruno Mars already? I don’t hate it though. Dude has solid vocals and is producing thus far. Be on the up and up, as The Rawth is rumored to release sometime in October.

DAILY 09/23

“Bulletproof Monster” is the second installment of Colin’s upcoming Revox Suite.

“It was a challenging experiment. The acapella of Nicki Minaj’s verse from “Monster” is in a vault somewhere so I was forced to use it with Kanye’s beat underneath, which made adding new vocals tricky. I also had to digitally alter La Roux’s “Bulletproof” melody to make it fit the “Monster” beat. Add my revox to that and it feels like I’ve created a musical Frankenstein. Fitting, I think. Enjoy this Bulletproof Monster.”

DAILY 09/07

“Here is the first installment from a new project I’m working on…The Revox Suite. If you remember my revox of Bob Dylan’s “Who Killed Davey Moore” off my Unsung Hero Mixtape then you get the idea. I wanted to create a series of remixes using (basically) only my voice.

First up is a revox of Sky Ferreira’s single, “One”. I had the pleasure of working with Sky on her upcoming LP (more on that later…) She has an amazing voice. Here’s a chance to hear “One” like you’ve never heard it before.” – Colin Munroe

I really liked his version of “Who Killed Davey Moore” and before today, I had never heard of Sky Ferreira, but this revox version of “One” is pretty dope. Check it out below.

I remember when this first dropped it became one of my favorites records, it’s good to see some added visuals directed by Rik Cordero who surprised me appearing on the Sprite commercial. The Bun B, Wale and Colin Munroe featured track is off of Statik’s 100 Proof album, which is out now.
