DAILY 07/24

With an incredible influx of music festivals happening all across the states due to this whole “EDM invasion” or whatever you want to call it, more and more festivals are popping up but lacking key elements to make them memorable. Sure the music will be great (maybe), sure you’ll see a few of your favorite artists, but is the festival really creating an experience that will leave a lasting impression on your psyche? Probably not. Two companies however seem to have all their ducks in a row and fully grasp what it takes to create the ultimate festival experience, Insomniac and Madison House Presents. Together, they brought 20,000 music lovers the second year of the Electric Forest Music Festival and we’re pretty sure it won’t be the last time either.

Perhaps best known now for its unparalleled attention to the seamless integration of music, art and community, Electric Forest continually takes the festival experience to the next level. The festival’s now-legendary Sherwood Forest, located in the heart of the festival site, each year raises the bar of patron expectations with its state-of-the-art, jaw-dropping light displays, intricate and earthy artful touches, and everything in between. – Madison House Presents

And they couldn’t be more correct. We embarked on a four day journey to the forest complete with a 13-car caravan, tents, food, and more boxes of glow toys than we knew what to do with. Follow us as we recap our journey to Electric Forest.

DAILY 06/26

While my dancing feet are still recovering from the inaugural Spring Awakening Music Festival, it’s time to put recovery aside and get ready for the highly anticipated Electric Forest. Previously regarded by seasoned festies as Rothbury, the festival takes place in Rothbury, Michigan and will be thrown under the Electric Forest name for the second year in a row by our favorite experience creator Insomniac and their partner Madison House Presents.

Having attended Insomniac created events such as the Electric Daisy Carnival in Las Vegas I know to expect the top shelf crème de la crème in festival organization, production, talent, and an all around good vibe. However, being a newbie to this event I felt I needed to compile a guide for others like myself to prepare us for the magical journey we are about to embark on. So I reached out to seasoned Electric Forest vets and used my own past festival experiences to compile a complete Electric Forest Survival Guide.

DAILY 08/09

Over the 4th of July weekend tens of thousands of music lovers descended upon the Double JJ Ranch in Western Michigan for the Electric Forest Music Festival. The festival rose from the ashes of the Rothbury Festival that was held on the same site in 2008 and 2009 and Electric Forest had a tough act to follow.

Those who attended the past Rothbury events deemed the venue one of the best festival settings and many were disappointed when last year’s Rothbury was not held. This year long-running jam band The String Cheese Incident recreated the festival as theirs and headlined the final three nights. The lineup featured many well-known acts in the laid back style of SCI, but at night the intensity was turned up a notch with a slew of young electronic acts such as Bassnectar, Skrillex, and Pretty Lights.

The praise of the Double JJ Ranch by past attendees was rooted in reality and not a hallucinogenic mushroom experience. The site is truly a gorgeous place for this gathering. Follow us as we take you through our second day at the forest with Bassnectar, Skrillex, Porter Robinson, Big Gigantic and a whole lot more. If you missed our previous day coverage, check the links out below. More after the jump!
