DAILY 04/17

“Summer’s Last Stand”, better known as North Coast Music Festival, is back for it’s third annual celebration and the first wave of artists have arrived. The first wave includes headliner Pretty Lights, with supporting acts from Axwell, Steve Angello, Atmosphere, Big Boi, Steve Aoki, Excision, Alesso, The Rapture, Modestep, Mord Fustang, Felix Da Housecat, Yacht, Dan Deacon, King Khan and The Shrines, Rebirth Brass Band, Van Ghost, Mary Jane Coles, Com Truise and Auto Body. While we expected this list to be more revealing, it’s already attracted some great talent and the organizers of NCMF have promised us many more acts including more headliners!

Just like past years, North Coast Music Festival will take place during Labor Day weekend in Union Park (Chicago). Catering to all ears, atendees will be able to dance to EDM, hip-hop, jam bands and indie artists.

In addition to NCMF’s main stages, Groupon will be hosting a Groupon Silent Disco where over 200 fans will be enjoying a rotating lineup of DJs along with some promised special guests.

Tickets are now available through Clubtix for $117. Chicago’s daily deal site, Groupon, is offering a limited amount of three-day general admission passes for only $62. These earlybird tickets usually sell out within hours, so grab them fast here!

For those fans over the age of 21, NCMF will feature a Dos Equis VIP Lounge where you’ll receive access to resereved viewing areas, 100 concession tickets, air-conditioned restrooms, locker services, shaded seating areas, premium food and beverage options, complimentary water and express entry to the festival. VIP tickets are $391.60 on Clubtix.

DAILY 04/12

As festival season quickly approaches us here in Chicago, local promoters have decided there is enough demand to add two new festivals to this year’s already jam-packed calendar! React Presents & Congress Theater are bringing us Spring Awakening Music Festival and then a few weeks later, we caught wind that Montrose beach would be home to the first annual Wavefront Beachside Music Festival. Headlining the inaugural Wavefront will be Duck Sauce & Erick Morillo with additional acts from Boyz Noize, Sasha, James Murphy, Benoit & Sergio, Lee Foss and many more. The event will take place on Saturday, June 30th and Sunday July 1st.

The masterminds behind Wavefront are former Chicago native and nightlife maven Brandon Carone of 4 Headed Productions and Dino Gardiakos of Spybar nightclub. They was inspired to do a beach event by last summer’s World Cup Polo Tournament at North Avenue Beach. They chose Montrose beach because it can be easily accessed as well as having more parking and boat slips than other desirable locations in Chicago.

General Admission and VIP are now available and can be purchased as single day or weekend passes on the Wavefront website.

Future Music Festival 2012 Australia and Asia are now officially over and although we didn’t attend, we’ve only heard amazing things about each festival. This year’s Australian event was held at The Flemington Racecourse which usually caters to Melbourne’s elite but for one weekend was transitioned into a playpen for adults. Headlining this year was Swedish House Mafia, Fatboy Slim and New Order. Over in Asia, the biggest music festival Malaysia has ever seen saw a massive turnout of 20,000 fans. Headliners were the Chemical Brothers, Pendulum, Chase & Status and Tinie Tempah. Take a peak at the video recap below!

This year’s Little 5 has officially been dominated by electronic music. There will be more talent in Bloomington in less than one week than my entire four years at IU. The most memorable show I experienced at IU was Pretty Lights at the Bluebird and I thought that was crazy! Next week Tiësto, Afrojack, Alesso, Tim Mason, Robbie Rivera and Laidback Luke will all be making stopping thru Bloomington to experience what I assume, their first Little 500. Hit the jump for our Little 5 EDM schedule and to purchase tickets!
