Fridays were made for funk. Sam Smith and Disclosure have teamed up with Nile Rodgers and Jimmy Napes to create this track, “Together”, a ridiculously funk-infused track combining all their styles. Such a shame it’s so short. Listen loudly; repeat.
It was 1995 and “Diggin’ On You” was my favorite song on my TLC CrazySexyCool cassette tape. This re-work from Iman Europe and starRo, proves that it’s still a solid tune (written and produced by Babyface) from a lethal collaboration. Vocal and vocal arrangement by Iman Europe, produced/song-arranged/mixed by starRo. Enjoy and download here.

The brother duo features Capri (vocalist) and SD (rapper) hailing from Pasadena, California. Musically Challenged is driven to connect with the youth on a level to display positive messages without negative or creative censoring from mainstream record labels. Musically Challenged transmits dramatic, ear-grabbing beats and fuses alternative rap, hip-hop, and R&B with jazz/soul influence…oh, and a side of west coast flavor. Download here.
Formerly known as Kaytradamus (stage name), Kaytranada is a Montreal producer, and has been one of my faves thus far. His firm roots in hip-hop and heavy electronic influences every sound, every beat. Check out his set at Boiler Room NY and listen as he incorporates his latest - Common’s “I Want You” mix and older mixes like Teedra’s “Be Your Girl”. And if you haven’t already, listen to “All We Do” featuring JMSN.
Sage The Gemini’s hit single “Gas Pedal” gets a rework from YAYAYI, which originally was featured on Soulection Radio. Also snagging vocals from Sean Kingston’s track “Beat It,” this rework definitely breathes some new life into both tracks.
Back in March, my ears blissfully met the sultry sounds of Shy Girls thanks to an excellent remix from The-Drum, and have been hooked ever since. The Portland collective just released their EP, Timeshare, swelling with seductive, slow intimate lyrics and woozy guitar bends. It’s a personal record, with heavy emotions and plenty of jazz influence. Also be sure to check out the video (above) a very intimate live session with the Shy Girls thanks to IntoTheWoods.tv.
