Kevin Celestin, aka Montreal beatsmith, Kaytranada, is in LA for two shows this week for his No Peer Pressure tour featuring Groundislava and Jerome, LA Canvas managed to sneak in some couch-time conversations with Nina Tabios. He touched on a bit about his up-coming tour in the US, genre-labeling, Drizzy Drake and bodybuilding babes.
Take a listen to his set from Brooklyn EMF Music Festival last month (below), proving to be an impeccable curator and gifted remixer offering up the best of R&B, hip-hop, disco and house for a varied, danceable, emotional experience. If you aren’t sold on him yet, then listen to one of my fav tracks this year – “All We Do” ft. JMSN (also below). Check out the full interview here at LA Canvas.
Interlude turned single now gets a visual treatment…with a bit of “Wus Good/Curious” featuring the filming of a video within a video. Catch PARTY on tour in a city near you. Enjoy the view. Listen to Welcome to the Party here.
This is the same Amin Payne that gave us the George Benson tribute earlier this month. Radio Juicy is a hip-hop platform founded in 2012 releasing music on limited formats such as tapes and vinyls. Facing a growing demand, they started planning new releases with some of the freshest artists around Germany and the label was then born. This edition features some of my favorite cuts like “Mystery” (c/o Anita Baker) for you soul-heads and more. Download this mix here.
JMSN is back with this new track, “The One” once again showcasing his vocal range and over content with some dark and heavy depth. The track is a bit airy (as most of his music is) and is coupled with some smooth synth and drums; truly creating his own R&B lane. His project, †Pllajë† is due out November 5th on White Room Records.
Consider this a reminder to check out The Internet’s latest album, Feel Good, which I’ve been so kind to provide below. If only I had this in the summer, but I suppose we can’t rush all good things. The LP is a short 13-tracks, but each are potent in their own right. Guest appearances include Jesse Boykins, Mac Miller, Tay Walker and Yuna. Now available on iTunes.
Here’s an original collaboration Stwo has made with Montreal based singer Shay Lia. In LA today it’s gloomy and rainy, perfect for sounds like these. Parisian producer Stwo has managed to make slow jams even more relaxed, combining an affection for smooth vocals with a spot-on sense for just-mellow-enough beats. If you haven’t already listen to his mix for SSENSE here.
Put this on repeat. This is the Shy Girls’ first single from his debut Timeshare EP due out October 28th on ASL. I admit, the visual isn’t quite up to par to the actual track – but it’s smooth and great. Be on the lookout for the EP and in the meantime, if you haven’t already, listen to this Shy Girls’ “Under Attack” Remix track.
Here’s a great Soulection mix to help you get through your work week. Soulection Radio is hosted LIVE every Saturday by Joe Kay from 10am-1pm (PDT) online here. Full track list at the jump.
There is something for everybody in here. Lots of unreleased music + music that was forgotten about. Shouts to all the amazing people who tuned in to the live show. Every once in a while we like to make a post about the location of our radio listeners and it’s always inspiring to see how many people are actually tuning in and the locations that they reside in. We can’t even pronounce some of the cities/countries! Talk about worldwide. Lets keep it moving. – Joe Kay
